Teacher Training Certificate Program
The Olin Center offers teacher training certificate courses through its Action in English division.
Accredited by the American Council of
Continuing Education (ACCET), we offer full- and part-time courses
designed to enable those without formal ESL teaching experience
or training to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) and English
as a Foreign Language (EFL) in as few as four weeks.
The goal of our TEFL Certificate course is to teach you in a short amount of time what will be of the most value to you as you begin to teach ESL/EFL. Action in English classes cover a wide range of theoretical information such as: principles and methods of language teaching, needs analyses and goal setting, learning styles, classroom interaction, lesson planning, syllabus and material development, and creating goals and objectives.
Classes also include practical information such as: effective use of the blackboard, and ideas for communicative activities that will inspire your students and achieve your learning objectives.
Becoming a good teacher means that you must have lots of practice. Students in our course spend ten hours outside of the class in observation of actual ESL classes, and several hours in peer teaching. Trainees also participate in a teaching practicum in which they teach real ESL students.
