About the TOEFL
Many students learning English know that English
alone is not enough to prepare them for the TOEFL. To succeed on this
test, students need specialized skills and strategies.
The Olin Center is one of the few schools in the Boston area with a program
specifically targeted to each area of the TOEFL.
About the test
The iBT TOEFL will assess all four basic language skills, including speaking. The reading and listening portions of the test will test more university material than ever before.
TOEFL iBT
Test time Approximately 3.5 hours
Sections Listening
Speaking (6 open-ended speaking questions)
Reading
Writing (one 20-minute, & one 30-minute essay)
Scoring 0-120 Test-takers will receive a score on each of the
four skill areas tested (0-30 each) in addition to an
overall score.
Changes from the CBT TOEFL
- No stand-alone grammar test (grammar tested throughout)
- New integrated skills questions test students’ ability to integrate information from more than one source.
- The iBT TOEFL is not be computer adaptive, but linear. The listening section will be more difficult, but students will be able to take notes (not allowed on the CBT TOEFL)
OLIN CENTER COURSES
Our classes meet daily for 3.5 hours a day of intensive study. In our computerized training lab, students have many opportunities to practice taking the TOEFL in its computerized format.
The Olin Center can provide I-20 forms for
full-time students who need them, and we offer a wide variety of other
services for international students.
